Google Releases Gesture Search for Android

On 3rd March Google released Gesture Search , a strong and experimental feature for touch phones running Google Android v2.0 and above. In this experimental feature gestures are used to open up bookmarks and contacts. All you have to do is to open up the device and draw letters. If you draw H, you will get contacts starting with H, not only this you will get all the applications and bookmarks that start with “H”.

If you draw another letter , then it finds specific contact, bookmark or app. One drawback with any touch application is that sometimes it fails to understand what we have written. In their official statement Google have highlighted how this Gesture Search can be a very good option for those who may not want to type stuff or even hate voice. As the device is small, it might take quite a lot of time to type in stuff and even lots of people are not comfortable at this.

This Gesture Search is expected to get good amount of downloads as this is available for free.

European Users get browser Choice

There was a long debate going on between Microsoft and European Union lately over the issue of Browsers. The European Customers had Internet Explorer as their default Web browser but starting today they will be offered choices of browsers.

“Web browsers are the gateway to the internet. Giving consumers the possibility to switch or try a browser other than that included in Windows will bring more competition and innovation in this important area to the benefit of European internet users,” said Joaquin Almunia, Competition Commissioner.

“More competition between web browsers should also boost the use of open web standards which is critical for the further development of an open internet.”

Starting today users will be able to choose between eleven additional browsers, including Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera which will be prominently displayed alongside Internet Exloper. If usrs scroll sideways they will be able to see Avant Browser, Flock, Green Browser, K-Meleon, Maxthon, Sleipnir and Slim Browser.

The European Commission says the browser “Choice Screen” will be displayed on over 100 million PCs between now and mid-May.
